Davids Responds to Washington Special Interest Redistricting Push

Today, Representative Sharice Davids issued the following statement after the Club for Growth launched a new ad campaign pressuring Kansas legislators to redraw congressional maps:

“Kansans deserve fair representation — not big-money special interests in Washington trying to silence our voices. This ad is not only misleading, it’s absolute nonsense and the kind of D.C. politics Kansans are tired of. Republican leadership in Topeka is trying to rig the election for Donald Trump instead of lowering costs or protecting health care for Kansans.”

The new ad encourages Kansans to contact state legislators and demand new maps. Davids urges Kansans to do the opposite: contact your state elected officials and tell them you want fair maps, not political gerrymandering designed to drown out your voice.

Background

Recent reporting has highlighted, “the only way to ensure Sharice Davids loses, or any Democrat, is to break Johnson County up.” During the 2022 gerrymander, however, state leaders — including Senate President Ty Masterson — promised to keep the county whole. Now, to gain an endorsement from Donald Trump, those same leaders are poised to go back on their word.

Davids has faced this fight before. Former-Senate Majority Leader Susan Wagle said at the time, “I guarantee you we can draw four Republican congressional maps.” But after the 2022 gerrymander, which was designed to make Kansas’ Third District as Republican-friendly as possible, Davids won the election by 12 percent and was re-elected last year by double digits. These outcomes underscore that even with direct attacks against Davids, voters will not be silenced or overridden by political manipulation.

The Club for Growth, a conservative Washington-based special interest group, has pledged at least $1 million to pressure Kansas’ Republican legislators into redrawing congressional maps to their advantage. This is part of Donald Trump’s larger plan to steal the 2026 election.
