Sharice for Congress Releases New Ad: Mouthful

Ad Highlights Davids’ Work to Lower Costs by Stopping Price Gouging by Big Corporations

This weekend, Sharice for Congress launched its latest TV ad of 2024, “Mouthful,” showcasing Representative Sharice Davids’ efforts to lower costs by taking on corporate price gouging, especially by big grocery chains. While consumer prices have jumped 3.4 percent over the past year, corporate costs have only gone up 1 percent. Davids is holding these companies accountable, ensuring Kansans can afford to put food on the table and support their families.

“The Price Gouging Prevention Act. It’s a mouthful. It’s meant to put more food on your table and keep more money in your pocket,” said Davids. “Increased grocery prices, sometimes with less in the package, are hurting Kansas families. It’s called “greedflation,” and I’m working to stop it…Helping Kansans cope with high prices is my highest priority.”

Big corporations have recently exploited economic shifts to prey on consumers by price gouging — raising prices far beyond what’s needed to cover their costs, all while blaming inflation and supply chain disruptions. That’s why Davids is backing the Price Gouging Prevention Act, which would crack down on corporate greed, protect American families, and help lower everyday costs.

Davids, who was raised by a single mother and is still paying off student loan debt, has worked diligently to lower costs for hardworking Kansans. She helped pass a law that caps the cost of insulin at $35 a month for seniors and finally lets Medicare negotiate for lower prescription drug prices, saving 74,000 Kansans on Medicare up to 79 percent on certain medicines.

Further, Davids voted to fix our supply chains and pushed for lower grocery costs by reducing our country’s dependence on foreign oil. She also successfully urged the IRS to give small business owners a tax break on mileage expenses for their businesses and introduced bipartisan legislation to help Kansas families access quality and affordable child care.
