In today’s debate for the Third Congressional District of Kansas, Representative Sharice Davids showed clearly why her approach and vision has earned her the support of voters in the Kansas Third, and how Prasanth Reddy’s positions on reproductive rights and economic issues are too extreme for this community.

During the debate hosted by the Johnson County Post, KCUR, and Kansas City Public television, Davids highlighted her successful, bipartisan record on everything from health care to infrastructure to manufacturing job creation. In contrast, Reddy is backed by extreme politicians who led one of the least productive sessions of Congress in U.S. history.

Davids highlighted her defense of reproductive rights, noting Reddy’s hidden endorsement by Kansans for Life, who back a national abortion ban without exceptions — the same agenda Kansas voters rejected in 2022. She also pointed to her work capping insulin at $35 for seniors and allowing Medicare to negotiate cheaper drug prices, while Reddy, who opposes these measures, holds significant stock in pharmaceutical companies raising drug costs.

Advance in-person voting is available throughout the Third District until November 4 at noon, and voters do not need to be registered with a political party to vote in the general election.

22 medical professionals warn: Reddy’s agenda jeopardizes “patients’ lives and well-being”

Overland Park, KS – Today, Representative Sharice Davids stood alongside local health care workers and Planned Parenthood advocates who cited Davids’ steadfast commitment to protecting health care access and lowering prescription drug costs for Kansans. In a letter released today, more than 20 local health care workers criticized Davids’ opponent, Prasanth Reddy, for his extreme stance on abortion and opposition to capping insulin prices for seniors, saying his policies would “jeopardize patients’ lives and well-being.”

“I’m proud to stand with these incredible health care professionals who dedicate their lives to protecting and caring for Kansans. They know firsthand how critical it is to have leaders who prioritize health care access and affordability,” said Davids. “Meanwhile, my opponent’s dangerous agenda would roll back the progress we’ve made — from capping insulin costs for seniors to defending reproductive rights. We can’t afford to go backwards, and I will keep fighting to lower the cost of prescription drugs and to keep politicians out of our most personal health care decisions.”

Davids was joined today by two local doctors, Elizabeth Wickstrom and Trevena Moore, both of whom signed the letter released at the event. They praised Davids for successfully capping insulin costs for seniors at $35 a month and enabling Medicare to negotiate lower prescription drug prices — policies that Reddy, a physician, opposes.

Emily Wales, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Great Plains Votes, also spoke, commending Davids’ unwavering commitment to reproductive rights. Wales warned of the risks posed by Reddy, who is endorsed by Kansans for Life, the group behind the 2022 anti-abortion amendment rejected by Kansas voters and who supports a national abortion ban.

Dear Fellow Kansans,

As health care professionals in the Kansas City area, we stand united in our strong support for Representative Sharice Davids in her re-election campaign this November. While her opponent, Dr. Prasanth Reddy, is a doctor by profession, his policy positions on critical health care issues would set Kansas back and jeopardize patients’ lives and well-being.

Sharice Davids has consistently fought to ensure that Kansans have access to affordable, high-quality health care. She has been a champion for protecting essential programs like Medicare and the Affordable Care Act, which so many of our patients rely on for their care. Her leadership also helped cap insulin costs at $35 a month for seniors and allowed Medicare to negotiate drug prices, which will lower prescription costs by up to 79 percent for 74,000 Kansans.

These actions not only help patients save money but also ensure they have access to life-saving medications. Moreover, Rep. Davids supports health care professionals like us, recognizing that a strong health care workforce contributes to a healthier community and a more robust economy.

In stark contrast, Reddy’s policy positions show a clear disregard for the health care needs of Kansans. His extreme stance on abortion puts the health and safety of women at risk across the state. When it mattered most during the August 2022 abortion amendment vote, he failed to take a stand, claiming he was “unclear” on the specifics. As health care professionals, we face tough decisions every day. But if Prasanth Reddy couldn’t make a straightforward choice when thousands of Kansans did, we certainly can’t trust him to navigate the complex, high-stakes decisions required in Congress.

Additionally, Reddy went so far as to call the previously mentioned law that lowered prescription costs “unconscionable.” This opposition to such a common-sense solution, which ensures access to affordable medications, shows just how out of touch Reddy is with the health care needs of Kansans. By putting political ideology over practical, life-saving measures, he disregards the well-being of everyday Kansans and the financial relief they deserve.

This November, the choice is clear. Sharice Davids is a proven advocate who will continue to fight for patients, not profits. We urge our fellow Kansans to support her re-election, protect access to quality health care, lower prescription drug costs, and safeguard reproductive rights. Your vote for Sharice Davids is a vote for a healthier, more equitable future for all of us. 

Prasanth Reddy is desperately trying to hide his extreme stance on reproductive rights, but Kansas voters won’t be fooled. As reported today in the Kansas Reflector, Reddy continues to downplay his support for the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, claiming abortion is a “states’ rights issue.” But his endorsement from Kansans for Life and backing by extreme politicians pushing a national abortion ban without exceptions paint a different picture.

While Reddy cozies up to those pushing for dangerous abortion bans, Sharice Davids is fighting to protect Kansans’ rights and keep health care decisions where they belong — between a woman and her doctor. Reddy’s attempt to cover up his true agenda won’t work. Kansans rejected this extremism in 2022, and will again this November.

“…Davids, a Democrat seeking reelection to a fourth term in Congress, positioned her campaign to appeal to voters who rejected an amendment to the Kansas Constitution in 2022 that would have allowed more restrictive state laws on abortion. She’s worked in Congress to codify into federal law provisions of Roe v. Wade, the landmark precedent struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Davids aired an attack ad that opened with a Kansas physician saying she swore an oath to put her patients first, the same oath Reddy pledged to uphold…It closed with the doctor declaring Reddy’s affiliation with conservative organizations and politicians seeking to ban all abortions was ‘wrong and dangerous.’

Reddy, the Republican challenger, is a Johnson County physician backed by Kansans For Life’s PAC, the state’s leading anti-abortion organization. KFL helped write the failed constitutional amendment, which didn’t include exceptions for rape, incest or to save the life of a mother.

During the congressional campaign, Reddy…welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision on Roe v. Wade, because it granted states an opportunity to craft their own provisions on abortion.

He said he didn’t cast a vote on the state constitutional amendment two years ago, because he wasn’t certain of implications of the measure passing.

In September, the Johnson County Republican Party added complexity to Reddy’s campaign by posted to Facebook a statement that said the idea that abortions were medically necessary was false because “the trauma of abortion delivering a dead baby is not less than delivering a live baby.”

The Kansas Democratic Party also urged Reddy to respond to the Johnson County GOP’s claim: ‘As for rape and incest, how do two wrongs make a right? A woman or girl is raped, so now a murder must also occur?’”

Today, Representative Sharice Davids (KS-03) announced her campaign raised over $1.47 million in the third quarter of 2024, with $1.75 million in cash on hand heading into the final weeks before Election Day. That’s why I voted for more border patrol agents and new drug screening technology to secure the border and take on cartels. Yesterday, Nick Levendofsky, Executive Director of the Kansas Farmers Union, wrote a letter to the editor in the Kansas City Star, recognizing Representative Sharice Davids’ commitment to passing a bipartisan Farm Bill. Levendofsky acknowledged that Davids’ leadership has been instrumental in ensuring that Kansas farmers’ voices are heard in Washington, D.C. The current Farm Bill extension expires on September 30, 2024.

Earlier this year, Davids hosted U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small, former U.S. Senator Pat Roberts, Kansas Secretary of Agriculture Mike Beam, and other policymakers to discuss the successes and challenges of Kansas’ farmers and producers.
